ROOT CANAL THERAPY – NEW BRAUNFELS, TX
SAVE YOUR TEETH FROM EXTRACTION
Has your tooth been throbbing with pain for days? The inner pulp might have become infected or injured at some point. If you don’t get professional help soon, the infection could progress to the point where you end up losing the tooth altogether. Naturally, it’s always better to keep your smile intact whenever possible. As soon as you have reason to think you’re suffering from a serious oral health issue, call us to schedule an appointment with Dr. Albrecht; after an examination, he may find that you’re a candidate for root canal therapy.
THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE
The goal of root canal therapy is to remove the damaged tissue inside the tooth as well as the bacteria that caused the infection in the first place. Once we’ve made an opening in the tooth, we can take out the pulp and other infectious debris; after that, we’ll irrigate the canals to ensure that they’re as clean as possible before refilling and resealing the area. Your mouth will be numbed during this procedure, so you won’t feel any pain (though you’ll likely experience mild discomfort afterwards).
REASONS FOR A ROOT CANAL
Root canal therapy might be performed for the following reasons:
- You have a deep cavity that has reached the pulp and was not treated in a timely manner.
- Your crown has been cracked or chipped, providing an opening for harmful organisms.
- Your pulp might have been injured in an accident. (This can happen even if the enamel doesn’t have any visible damage.)
No matter the cause of your dental issue, saving the tooth with a root canal when possible is always preferable to an extraction. You’ll maintain your natural smile and continue to be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods.
