Different Options Based on Your Needs

ORAL CONSCIOUS SEDATION

Oral conscious sedation begins with a small pill. You’ll be told to take it at a specific time, often the night before your appointment. Since the medication is likely to start taking effect before you arrive at our office, you’ll need someone else to drive you here. By the time the treatment begins, you’ll be in an extremely relaxed state where you won’t be bothered by what’s going on around you. We’ll monitor you during the procedure to make sure you stay safe at all times.

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION

While dental fears are common, not all of them are particularly severe. Patients who are only mildly uncomfortable with the idea of treatment should consider nitrous oxide. More commonly known as laughing gas, this particular sedative takes effect quickly once you start breathing it in. It also wears off much sooner than other forms of sedation, meaning you can drive yourself home or back to work right away without having to worry about making other arrangements.

IV SEDATION

While IV sedation is sometimes referred to as “twilight dentistry”, it does not actually put you to sleep. You may be relaxed enough to doze off, but you can be awakened rather easily, and you’ll be in a position to answer questions if need be. The level of IV sedation can be adjusted throughout the procedure as well. The sedation is likely to have amnesiac side effects, so don’t be surprised if you can’t recall any details about the procedure later.
